Moz Connected Devices Vizag

Hello Folks,

I am back with a new post. This is all about the event that we did on Connected Devices. This event is basically to create awareness about Mozilla Mission, Firefox Browser and mostly on connected devices among the students so that they can start contributing in Mozilla's various projects. Our major focus will be on working on many connected devices ideas and implement them in short time period.

Finally the event day is out. We entered the venue and we are shocked to see more than 600+ participants in the hall and they are very excited about the event. We got many students across many colleges around the vizag.

I kick started the event introducing the Open source community Mozilla and its mission. I introduced about the campus clubs and the platforms they can contribute to. After that I explained about various projects in Mozilla and provided a clear picture about how they can work on.

After that Charan introduced about the various security vulnerabilities and also about the web privacy. The students are very excited about this session and they got their doubts cleared with him.

After that Harsha Bandaru took a session on Connected Devices. He introduced about what exactly are the connected devices, Internet of Things and its surroundings and about the various projects in Mozilla. After that he explained about various development boards like raspberry pi, Arduino and ESP - 8266. After that he also introduced about Foxberry pi i.e, Raspberry pi with firefox os. The students has seen practically on how this whole boards work.

In the meanwhile we spotted some scumptious food and we took a break for an hour. After post lunch we kept a Q/A session where we want to know that the students are with us. Rep Harsha quickly done this and we got many innovative ideas and doubts from the students.

After that Kalyan took a session on Addons and showed them practically how exactly they work. He also covered various topics in web security and students were so glad that they learned many things in a day. After that Kalyan concluded the whole session.

Finally we distributed the swag for all the good ideas and the questions that we got from students. We are very happy to see the success of the event and stay tuned with us for more updates :)

MOZ CONNECTED DEVICES AND GROW VIZAG

Hello Folks,

Exicted!!!Hell yeah!!! I am back with a new post. Its a great thing to know that Mozilla is working on many projects based on Connected Devices. This time we want to do something new and we decided to conduct a session on Mozilla Connected Devices and explain what exactly are the participation pathways.

Finally the most awaited day is infront of us. M exicted to see the Mozilla Rep Sumanth  and Sudarshan coming all over the way from Hyderabad. Quickly sumanth started a session on FOSS.

After that Sumanth moved on showing the live examples of FOSS and explained about the different Participation Pathways of involving into Mozilla. The students were really excited about the different oppurtunities.

After that we moved on discussing about the Connected Devices and various projects that have undertaken by Mozilla. Sumanth explained about what exactly is a connected device and introduced about the Open Hardware Rasberry Pi which serves as a main tool for students in making their projects.

After that Sumanth discussed about the Privacy of the internet. He explained about the few problems and he tried to bring out the solutions to that problems. All students came to know about various issues on the internet and they reliased that privacy matters a lot. After that we had an interactive session with all the students where they came with different ideas about the projects that they gonna do on connected devices and about different queries.

After that Sumanth concluded the session. We got nearly 280+ participants attended to the event and all of them became FSA's and started their contributions in various fields. I am so excited to see many innovative ideas given by the students and glad to see the success of the event.

Stay tuned with us :)

Web Literacy at Visakhapatnam

I always have an aim of teaching internet to the school children.During my travel to many places across India I have seen many underprivileged kids who are more exicted about technology.I was planning for doing an event in my local community Visakhapatnam but i can't find the right platform to do it.It was like a dream for many days.In the meanwhile I met Harsha in Collab where he was with the same intention of doing something to the kids.Yeah...!! We both interacted and decided to do this event in more than 10 schools.

Getting the idea is the basic thing but it is very hard to implement. It is all about team building.Itz hardly four days more to the event and I dont know what to do.Luckily I met a right person jagadeesh where I managed to get around 60 people from the city.I got everything in my hand and the next task is to train them.I started talking about what exactly the Mozilla is and steps of increasing the Web Literacy.

Mozilla reps Akshay Tiwari and Harsha Vardhan came from Hyderbad and guided the team with their experience. They interacted with the team and talked about how to contribute to Mozilla, what exactly the Mozilla community is doing and some steps to do this kidzilla event. After that we divided the students into many teams and gave the location of the school where the event should happen.Swag was distributed at the end of the meeting.

The most awaited day 22nd june is infront of us.The children were so exicted about the event to start. We started teaching them about the basic Internet and moved on to Mozilla web browser, what exactly the open web is and some tips for searching in google. We talked about various buttons, tools, different social networking sites, wikipedia and other related stuff.

Simuntaneously we gave the laptops to the kids and made some hands-on sessions. The children were so exicted that they researched on many fields that are available on the internet. They came to know about various advantages of different social networking sites and how to use them.

Event was conducted in 12 schools at a time. The outreach was more than 1800+ students who got to know about the things that are happening in the outside world.Glad that my dream came true only because of harsha. The team was fantastic as they supported me in each and every aspect and the response that I got was immense.Looking forward to do these type of events and I am proud to be a Mozillian as I am protecting the world's largest open web source.Stay with us to learn more :-)

Interviewing Users for Mozilla-Secondary Research-Week 2 and 3

Hello folks,
I am back with a new post. This is all about my research on Interviewing users for Mozilla week 2 and 3.My research started with a famous quote "Free your mind...and your ass will follow".

While doing my research I came to experience the world view at the door and at the beginning of the project, get what's in everyone's heads out on the table whether it's real time,face-to-face or in front of a whiteboard.By saying our issues aloud and writing it down, they leave the group specifically and enter an external, neutral space.

It is better to capture everything that everyone thinks they know so that it's not stuck in their heads. It's not about being right or wrong,it's all about expressing ourselves.I came to know that we have to go where the people are.Rather than asking people to come to us to be interviewed,go where they are.In order to embrace their world ,we should be in their world.

I analysed that, always ask the questions to the other person if we know the answer and building Rapport is very important thing that one should know before interviewing anyone and be selective when we are talking about ourselves. The next important thing is beware of our body language because it describes everything about us.

Now my research came to a stage to interview someone.Establishing our objectives is main goal before interviewing.Clarifying the objectives-what you hope is get out of the research-is an extremely challenging aspect of many engagements. Here the right incentive amount depends on where you are doing research and what you are asking of the participant. We should be more creative about incentives.

After that I researched about key stages of an interview.I have seen a model named Ross, which describes 5 stages:denial, anger, bargain, depression and acceptance. This describes a conistent set of elements in a very human experience. He pointed out that people dont necessarily experience all those stages or experience them in that order.

I came to know that people will respond to the short answers at first and will eventually reach a point where they are telling stories. You cant predict how long it will take to reach that point ,but that is the goal. After that I came across how to ask question in different fields.

This is the end of my research for week 2 and 3.Its really fun, interesting and challenging than week 1.I learned about different stuff which includes building rapport, listening, establishing an objectives before doing an interview, creating the field guide, roles for the field team and atlast how to ask questions.Inaddition to that I have done some pratical things, like interviewed many people in the local community where I live in.Stay tuned for more updates

Its,
psv
A passionate mozillian:)

Interviewing Users for Mozilla - Secondary Research-Week1

Hello,

I am back with a new post. This is not about any event but my research on Interviewing users for mozilla.I am glad that i am a part of the research..

I came to know that Mozilla is not only interested in technologies like browser and phone but also interseted in Large Screens.

I organised my work in such a way that i started with secondary research(what is it about and some examples),As i am a beginner of the research i learned some tips of the lean market research and a case study of secondary research.

By this i came to know about various advantages, limitations, purpose and the steps that involve in secondary research process(identifying what and where, gathering existing data, normalized data if needed and analysing data). After that i came to know about various inputs that i have to give for my research so that i can expect a basic primary research as an output.Later my work ended up with more research about large screen as it is the major topic of this week.

For getting more valuable information during my research i searched various blogs, case studies,Google scholar(i am new to Google scholar but after using it i got some better results) and the most important technique that i used is Desk Research,By using this technique i identified the major subject where i have to research on and where to acquire the information, gathered some existing information and after that i analysed that information.

When i am researching i came to find a topic Meta-analysis of research. Here secondary analysis refers to the analysis of a research where meta -analysis refers to analysis of analysis. It mainly uses to refer to the statistical analysis of a large collection of analysis results from individual studies for the purpose of integrating the findings. It connects a rigorous alternative to the casual, narrative discussions of research studies which typify our attempts to make sense of the rapidly expanding research literature.

When comes to my research on large screens i came to know that plasma display(PDP) and Digital Light Processing(DLP)have been released on the public market recently, many advantanges and disadvantages of large screens and i found that our future generation uses Organic Light-Emitting Diode,Field Emission Display,Laser TV,Telescopic Pixel Display,Laser Powered Phosphor Display.AMOLED(active-matrix organic light-emitting diode) is a display technology in mobile devices and television.OLED describes a specific type of thin-film-display technology in which organic compounds form the electroluminescent material, and active matrix refers to the technology behind the addressing of pixels.Ifound that most android phones are using this.

Now a days people are using a technology called video wall which is a special multi-monitor setup that consists of multiple computer monitors, video projectors, or television sets tiled together contiguously or overlapped in order to form one large screen.Typical dispaly technologies include LCD panels,Direct View LED arrays, blended projection screens,Laser Phosphor Displays and rear projection cubes.
Screens specifically designed for use in video walls usually have narrow bezels in order to minimize mullion, the gap between active display areas, and are built with long-term serviceability in mind.Such screens often contain the hardware necessary to stack similar screens together, along with connections to daisy chain power, video, and command signals between screens.A command signal may, for example, power all screens in the video wall on or off, or calibrate the brightness of a single screen after bulb replacement.

Reasons for using a video wall instead of a single large screen can include the ability to customize tile layouts, greater screen area per unit cost, and greater pixel density per unit cost, due to the economics of manufacturing single screens which are unusual in shape, size or resolution.Video walls are sometimes found in control rooms, stadiums, and other large public venues.

Finally my research came to an end for this week.I came to know many new things about the secondary research,Large screens and many advantages and disadvantages..The research was fun and was more interesting through out the week and the experience i got was awsome..will meet u with a new topic next week.stay tuned :-)
